Ride Leuven

Would you like to ride on the course where the pros battle later in the day and where world champions have made history?

On August 23, Ride Leuven is on the programme. An accessible and atmospheric cycling event in and around Leuven, where experience and sport go hand in hand. The absolute eye-catcher is the 15 km traffic-free city loop through the heart of Leuven.

This city loop is included in every distance. If you choose the 20 km ride, you cycle safely through the city, completely free of traffic, and enjoy a lively and carefree course. Ideal for families, recreational riders, and anyone who wants to soak up the cycling atmosphere in a relaxed way.

Those looking for something extra can opt for the 70 km route, which extends the city loop with a loop through the beautiful Hageland region. This is no ordinary region. Later that same day, it will form the setting for the pros during the final of the Renewi Tour, finishing in Leuven. A unique opportunity to discover the roads of the peloton yourself.

For the real flandriens, there is the 125 km route, which goes one step further. In addition to the Hageland and the Leuven city loop, this route also heads towards the Grape Region over the iconic 2021 World Championships loop. This extra section takes you through the rolling landscapes around Huldenberg and Overijse, with the Smeysberg as a tough highlight. A course steeped in cycling history, where you can feel like a true cycling hero for a moment.

In short, whether you want to enjoy a relaxed ride or push yourself more sportively, Ride Leuven offers a unique cycling experience for everyone. In the footsteps of world champions, on the course of the pros—experience it all yourself!

Discover the course

All Ride Leuven distances start and finish in Heverlee. From there, you choose your challenge: three routes, each featuring the unique Leuven city loop as a major highlight. This loop is traffic‑free for participants only between 9:30 and 11:00 AM, so plan your start wisely. After 11:00, it closes for the final stage of the Renewi Tour.

On the 20 km route, enjoy a lively, traffic‑free loop through the heart of Leuven, accessible to all ages. You ride safely past iconic climbs such as the Wijnpers and the Keizersberg.

If you choose the 70 km, you head from Heverlee into the beautiful Hageland for a 50 km loop via Lubbeek and Holsbeek, featuring the challenging Chartreuzenberg. Afterwards, you join the 20 km city loop through Leuven. An ideal mix of nature and urban atmosphere. With nearly 500 metres of elevation, it’s a demanding yet achievable ride.

If you really want to test your legs, the 125 km route is for you. After the Hageland loop and the city loop, an extra Flandrien loop awaits. In the Druivenstreek, the real climbing begins, with the Smeysberg and the Mommaertsstraat, famous from the 2021 World Championships. After these tough sections, you return to Heverlee via quieter roads. In total, around 1000 metres of elevation: perfect for riders who truly want to push themselves.

If you want to perform sports at a high intensity, you should have yourself checked annually by a (sports) doctor. It is not compulsory to submit medical certificates.

Ride with us and support Younited Cycling

Besides being a relaxing activity, cycling is also a powerful tool. Under the flag of ‘My Team, My Home’, Younited Cycling builds cycling teams where everyone is welcome and included.

Their participants are experts in daily survival who fight against vulnerability in housing, mental health, well-being, poverty, migration or addiction.

In their peloton, they find more than just teammates, they find a home. They are coached by social workers who give them a warm welcome and individual attention, to guide them both on and off the bike.

Additional funding is needed to help Younited Cycling grow. Your contribution can also help. When registering online, you have the option to donate 5, 10 or 15€ for Younited Cycling.
